Jayden Danns Set to Sign New Long-Term Contract and Move to Sunderland on Loan

The Liverpool youngster is set to commit his long-term future to the Reds. James Pearce has also reported the 19-year-old is also set to move to championship side Sunderland on loan for the remainder of the season.

The Reds secure the future of one of our most exciting academy prospects.

This is fantastic news for the club. Jayden Danns looks like a player, a proper player. He already has 3 senior goals for the club since making his debut last season and looks to have exciting potential.

Two of those goals came against Southampton last season in the FA Cup, a game he didn’t even start. His first was a fantastic chip over the Southampton keeper, a finish you’d expect from a top striker. His second came from reacting quickest from a rebound to put the ball in the back of the net. His third goal for the club came against Accrington Stanley a few weeks ago, where the ball fell kindly to him after the keeper parried Chiesa’s effort.

From what we’ve seen, he looks like a classic poacher who has a knack for being in the right place at the right time, a crucial attribute for a striker.

A good loan move for all parties.

Apart from the upcoming FA Cup game away to Plymouth, I can’t see Danns starting many games for us. He would probably make a few cameo appearances here and there with 10-15 minutes to go, but that would be the most he gets.

From Liverpool’s point of view, he is not needed for this season. We have six fantastic options to play in the front three positions in Salah, Diaz, Gakpo, Jota, Nunez and Chiesa. Danns wouldn’t get the minutes he needs for his development, and Liverpool knows this. Therefore, it makes sense to send him out on loan.

At his age, he needs game time to develop, and playing for promotion-chasing Sunderland will do him a lot of good. He’s joining a team that aren’t the most dangerous going forward, having scored 42 in 29 league games this season, and their top scorer, Wilson Isidor only has nine goals, their second-highest only on four. If Sunderland want any chance of automatic promotion, they need to be more prolific in front of goal, and that’s why they’re bringing in Danns.

Hopefully, Danns will have the opportunity to be Sunderland’s main source of goals. This is a great opportunity for him to play regular football for a good championship side.
